Planning my musical summer

Post by jbuck919 » Thu May 17, 2018 12:08 pm

First there is whatever I attend during the meet-up. Then there is Organ Historical Society. (This may seem of peripheral interest to our membership, but programming at the many recitals includes much Bach and Messiaen, whom many organists consider the two greatest organ composers. I won't go into my opinion on that or other features of the convention programming but will save that for a report when I return.) Then there is the chamber music series at the Luzerne Music Camp (look it up), which is as close to me as anything is to Stony Creek, but which gets world-class talent from Philadelphia. I will only go to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center for a matinee even though I substitute teach at the high school regularly. I looked at the NYC Ballet program and they are featuring Romeo and Juliet. The Times critic panned that production along with almost everything that choreographer has done, so cross City Ballet off the list. That leaves a single substantial program by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The last possibility is Giulio Cesare at the Seagle Music Colony somewhat north of here but not that far away. For reasons I won't go into, I'm not going to Bard for Rubinstein's Demon which may be the opera that is making Len and Sue (Goran) unavailable for the meet-up on the 26th.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
