Leon Fleisher & Mitusko Uchida at Marlboro VT
Having spent four days at the Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont, I was pleasantly surprised to run into Mitsuko Uchida. But on a trip to the men's room, who do I run into but Leon Fleisher! We had a chance to have a few words. He is playing on occasion he said. I believe he was in Marlboro to conduct a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony this weekend. The concerts, incidentally, were fabulous. Only problem is the very tight seating arrangements in the big hall. The concerts I saw were packed to the gills.

Re: Leon Fleisher & Mitusko Uchida at Marlboro VT
Leon Fleisher is, of course, a Baltimorean. Many years ago I attended a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience, or, Bunthorn's Bride at the Park School in that city. His son, whose voice had not yet changed, was stupendous as Bunthorn. Talent runs in families.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
