He was 20 years old then and probably had just begun his senior thesis at Harvard: https://www.jstor.org/stable/25664807Rach3 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 3:17 pmWas not aware Bernstein had written a piano sonata , recording here by pianist Alexander Frey. Re: Leonard Bernstein's Piano Sonata ( 1938 )
I looked in vain to find even a commercial recording of Bernstein's 1938 piano sonata. I don't believe it is in any of his mega boxed sets performed by anyone. Other than YT, does anyone know of a commercial recording of the work?

U.S. Amazon.com has three recordings which are part of collections of Bernstein's solo piano works. Pianists include Leann Osterkamp (Steinway & Sons), Andrew Cooperstock (Bridge) and Mr. Frey mentioned above (Koch Industries). They are all 2-CD sets.
DG has a recording played by Katie Mahan which is also part of a collection of Bernstein's solo works. It looks like it is download only but Amazon.com has it.
