Was not aware Bernstein had written a piano sonata , recording here by pianist Alexander Frey. Very interesting , 20-minute work , bit Shoshtakovich -ian to my ear :

He was 20 years old then and probably had just begun his senior thesis at Harvard: https://www.jstor.org/stable/25664807

More interesting Bernstein solo piano works , in addition to his 1938 Piano Sonata :

“ 5 Anniversaries “ , 1945 - 51, and “13 Anniversaries “ , 1960-88 :

I looked in vain to find even a commercial recording of Bernstein's 1938 piano sonata. I don't believe it is in any of his mega boxed sets performed by anyone. Other than YT, does anyone know of a commercial recording of the work?

rubbed his name off the piano. [Speaking about pianist &*$#@+#]

U.S. Amazon.com has three recordings which are part of collections of Bernstein's solo piano works. Pianists include Leann Osterkamp (Steinway & Sons), Andrew Cooperstock (Bridge) and Mr. Frey mentioned above (Koch Industries). They are all 2-CD sets.

DG has a recording played by Katie Mahan which is also part of a collection of Bernstein's solo works. It looks like it is download only but Amazon.com has it.
