May be worth the hassle of navigating the Radio Belgium site.
Henryk Szeryng, Brahms Violin Concerto, live in Vienna, 1967, with Bavarian Radio Orchestra under Raphael Kubelik. I'll defer to the violin experts here, but seemingly spotless technique, intonation; warm sound even over Internet ; vigorous but not rushed :

Same program has a 1963 Szymanowski VC # 2 with Ansermet I did not hear.
Szeryng live Brahms VC
Re: Szeryng live Brahms VC
The following year I went to a concert in Frankfurt in which Szering played the Bach E major, Beethoven, and Brahms concertos, one after another, with the Antwerp Philharmonic conducted by Eduard Flipse. Of course I enjoyed it, who wouldn't? But it made no great impression on me, nor have Szering's recordings that I've heard (not many of them).

Re: Szeryng live Brahms VC
I have been a huge fan of Henryk Szeryng ever since I first heard his name in RCA recordings with legendary pianist Artur Rubinstein. I am embarrassed to say how many of his recordings I have, but it is more than 100 on CD, including Decca, DGG, Philips, and RCA, plus a plethora of live and minor label recordings. As I recall, is was Rubinstein himself who helped to Szeryng into an international career. I understand, however, Szeryng could be difficult. He has worked and recorded with a huge number of stellar artists other than Rubinstein such as Arrau, Kubelik, Monteux, Haebler, Marriner, Haitink, Starker, Munch, Klemperer, Fournier, Martinon ... the list goes on and on. I felt he had a powerful sound that was well controlled, and was warmer than Heifetz, taking nothing away from the latter master!

Not a word beyond this, except to say that just figuring out the arpeggione is halfway from here to the next planet.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Thanks JohnB & Rach3 for that! I must say that I am very much a Heifetz fan in Bach as well as other composers (his Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven VCs have remained highly favored since they were issued), and I've not paid much attention to Szeryng all these years. Your posting has opened my ears to this fine artist, both in Bach and Brahms.
