Witold Malcuzynski [1914-1977] was highly esteemed during his lifetime and grew up during the "golden age" of piano playing. He was only 62 years old at the time of his death. In the early days he recorded for American Columbia, but most of his recordings appeared on the EMI label. In 2013, an eight-CD set entitled "The Polish Master" was issued by EMI [19244] that most pianophiles would enjoy, including the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1. Nice to see his name appear here.

Yes, I just realized I have that EMI set somewhere. IIRC, Malcuzynski's Chopin is particularly fine, which I first heard on a cassette 25 years ago!

Indeed, I recommend that Guild recording as well. If you are looking for an interesting live recording with Malcuzynski, Melo Classics has one [1015] recorded live in Paris in 1959 that includes Brahms' Handel Variations, Prokofiev's Sonata #7, Beethoven's "Appassionata" Sonata. That recording comes from Melo Classics in France. Ermitage also released a couple of CDs of live material as well. Malcuzynski, a really fine pianist.
