I believe my first hearings today ; very impressive, will need re-hearings:
Pēteris Vasks (b.1946)
Distant Light ( Violin Concerto )
Vadim Gluzman (Violin), Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hannu Lintu (Conductor)
Einojuhani Rautavaara (1928-2016)
Cello Concerto No. 1, Op 41
Raimo Sariola (Cello), Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Pertti Pekkanen (Conductor)
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0000khn
Rautavaara has another cello concerto, a sonata for solo cello, and 2 sonatas for cello and piano. Vasks has 2 other concerto-type works for violin and orchestra, and a violin/piano work.Anyone heard any of these others , care to comment, recommend ? TIA.

Re: Stellar Finnish violin, cello concertos
I have recordings of Rautavaara's Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 5 , his Violin Concerto, and some of his solo piano music, all of which I enjoy greatly. Have no recordings of Vasks, who seems equally prolific.

Re: Stellar Finnish violin, cello concertos
Rautavaara’s wonderful 1977 Violin Concerto, mine an Ondine studio recording by Elmer Olivera,Helsinki Phil. under Leif Segerstam, but here a live video performance by a violinist with the courage to play live, one Evie Chen, Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra,Joshua Hong conducting, all new folks for me, but well done , perhaps a 2019 concert :
