Nino Rota’s rarely heard radio opera I due timidi (New York premiere!)
Manhattan School of Music Opera Theater’s fall mainstage production presents a singular double bill of two 20th-century works, Nino Rota’s rarely heard radio opera I due timidi (New York premiere!) and Giacomo Puccini’s Suor Angelica. The production, which will run for four performances from December 6 to 9, is central to MSM’s season-long Centennial celebrations and represents the first production in the School’s newly renovated, historic Neidorff-Karpati Hall.
Conducted by Giovanni Reggioli and directed by MSM Opera Theater Artistic Director Dona D. Vaughn, this MSM Centennial production marks still another hundred-year anniversary, that of Suor Angelica, which had its world premiere at the Metropolitan Opera on December 14, 1918.
I due timidi and Suor Angelica will be sung in Italian with English surtitles and accompanied by the MSM Opera Orchestra.
