Karl Henning
Many of you know Karl, he has been a member here for nearly 2 decades. What you may not know is that he had a major stroke the day before Thanksgiving and is in rather a bad way in hospital. His wife Maria has started a Go Fund Me campaign to try and get some help, since their situation is less than ideal vis-á-vis insurance for long-term rehab. Her Facebook link is

If any of you can find your way clear to help out, no matter how little you can afford, I am sure it will be much appreciated.

Re: Karl Henning
This is very sad news for Karl and his family. Let's hope he's able to make a recovery and return to what he enjoys doing - making and composing music.

Hello everyone,
I don't logon very often but I am inclined to look in about twice a week. I had heard of Karl's misfortune and of the very difficult situation he now finds himself in. His wife has set up a page on Facebook to try and raise money for his rehabilitation. The page may be found here if you are interested in making a donation:

Thank you.

Re: Karl Henning
Since is is a matter of public record, I am not boasting when I say I donated, but only Karl's wife knows the amount. No other advanced country would expect private fund-raising to deal with this. My mother had the free (well, government-paid) program TriCare which would have covered all her needs under such circumstances. Put it together with Medicare and it's as good as any national health insurance in the world. Still, when it comes to principle versus the need of a friend, what is one supposed to do? The Republicans callously and cynically take advantage of the "thousand points of light" as they turn their back on decency, and they have the support of millions of people they have bamboozled into thinking this is normal and even desirable. I only hope that Karl gets good care (at least we do have that) and recovers.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Re: Karl Henning
Thanks to Seán out in Ireland, he conveyed to me the first I heard about Karl Henning's issues. Karl has been on these boards — as Gurn has noted above — for many years. I hope Karl fully recovers and we can continue to enjoy his input and friendship on these boards.
And Seán, you are greatly missed here, too! Can you please spend a little more time with us here?

Only just now did I get on this page. I'll certainly do my bit to aid Karl & family.

Sad news.
Truth is, we never got on well here but as a human and fellow composer I so hope he recovers quickly. An awful blow to him and his family.
.
Oh...it looks like you need a facebook account (or are prepared to sign up for one) to be able to donate. The terms and conditions run into about 350 close-typed pages...

Re: Karl Henning
I am very sorry to hear this news. He's too young for this kind of thing to be happening.
I've lost track of him for a number of years, but he did write a nice clarinet quartet for me (3 clarinets and bass clarinet) which I performed on a couple of occasions around 2003.
I hope he is able to recover and function normally in a reasonable amount of time.

Black lives matter.

Re: Karl Henning
I note Karl Henning is posting trivia on another music board, so I can only presume he's out of immediate danger after a stroke.

Re: Karl Henning
Yes, I've seen a couple of his posts as well. Apparently he can get around on his own with a cane (in the ward, I believe), and has lost about 17 pounds--which is a scary amount to lose so quickly.
