Incredible ALKAN playing!

Post by Lance » Sat Jan 26, 2019 8:10 pm

This young Japanese pianist is among the best I've heard. Most pianophiles already know how difficult the music of ALKAN is to play on the piano. Rumor has it even Liszt was apprehensive about the man's music. Even the superb British pianist, Jack Gibbons, has remarked on YouTube about the pianist and his playing as being extraordinary.

Yui Mirishito has a number of recordings available from Japan, but as you might suspect, they are exceedingly high priced.

This is the only the second recording of Alkan's Scherzo Focoso, Op. 34. The first appeared on the Amemptos label with British pianist Lloyd Buck, but at a slightly slower tempo. One wonders how the pianos could sustain this kind of playing in Alkan's day!

When she started to play, Mr. Steinway came down and personally
rubbed his name off the piano. [Speaking about pianist &*$#@+#]
