Under the Influence

Post by Belle » Thu Feb 07, 2019 7:24 pm

This is a topic which always enthuses; the influence one composer has upon another and how we all recognize those DNA markings in the original works.

Just this morning I was listening, as mentioned earlier, to Beethoven Op. 109. It occurred to me that in that magnificent third movement Beethoven might have been channeling Bach: go to 11:56 here, from approx. bars 8-14.

Then go to 1:26 here; there is only the difference in tempo but the same motifs and rhythm are used with the ostinato supporting the melody line!!

Beethoven reveals to us his study of the great, great master - whether subliminal or not!!
