Pianist Alexander Lonquich live

Post by Rach3 » Thu May 09, 2019 11:02 am

Some favorable discussion of this pianist here in past.

Pianist Alexander Lonquich conducting and playing Mozart PC # 9 , K.271, “ Juenehomme”, with Camerata Salzburg , May 8,2019, Muziekgebouw :

Very fine.Beethoven-esque reading, kept being reminded of LvB’s PC # 1.

Alexander Lonquich plays Beethoven concerti live.
I was not anxious to hear this concert , but after the PC # 1 was convinced. He has obviously grouped the “heroic” works , but his effort both as pianist and conductor is impressive. Hopefully, he also did the more subtle, romantic 2 and 4 which I would definitely hear. Suggest listening to these 3 separate days, perhaps, although I enjoyed straight-thru.I may very well re-listen.

Munich Chamber Orchestra

A rare chance , for me, to hear him live, and in an interesting program.A puzzling , harsh “Arabesque”, but rest fine:

The correct pronunciation of his last name? Could it be: LON-kwitch? Anyone know for sure?

Hard to tell from the French announcer: Long-Quiche?

I was most impressed with his Liszt , Chopin encore, and Schumann Op.6. CPE's stop-and -go style may be considered "dramatic",but irritates me.

Agreed. Most of the repertoire seemed chosen to reflect his intellectual curiosity rather than to please the somewhat subdued audience. The Schumann "Arabesque" was very odd. He just had no clue.
