The latest from Francesca of Glimmerglass-we won't be going up there this year. Regards, Len

Cesca's is a most interesting newsletter. I'm anxious to try out that recipe!

Francesca Zambello is the one who staged "Billy Budd" at Covent Garden and elsewhere without the ship. She was also the director of City Opera's production of Tippett's "The Midsummer Marriage" that ignored the ritualistic elements without which the opera is incomprehensible. Tippett was there in person, very frail (he was 88 and died 5 years later), he was helped onto the stage for a bow and applauded the production. I applauded him but not the production.

We used to enjoy Glimmerglass but recently we've been let down by their productions-the final straw for me was staging Donizetti's Siege of Calais in a place that looked like Aleppo Syria. Regards, Len :(

Too hot for me! I can't eat anything with hot peppers now: I'd end up in the hospital! .....And somehow, eggplant and I have a disagreement, along with tomato sauce.......
