Bartok's 3 PC's live in single concert

Post by Rach3 » Sun May 08, 2022 5:15 pm

A live concert featuring all 3 of Bela Bartok’s piano concertos in top-notch peformances. As soon as I saw Fischer was in charge ( and names of the pianists) had to hear even though all these young ( 30-somethings) pianists were new to me. The PC # 1 was exceptionally fine, but the other 2 excellent as well, PC # 3 one of my fav of all piano concertos. The RCO was up to the task as well.

Not quite sure I could take all three in a single concert even with three different soloists.

I've heard him in recital. He's outstanding.

I think it's a brilliant idea and will listen with rapt attention!

I shared your concern initially, but it worked I think primarily because of the excellence of the performances and the fact the 3rd provides relief from the others.

I've got several CDs with all three concerti, Geza Anda, Bavouzet and Boulez conducting Yefim Bronfman on Sony and three pianists on DGG (Zimmerman, Andsnes & Grimaud). This concert ranks with the best of these, including sound quality, and should be released on CD. Five gold stars, Steve! Many thanks! What a find! :D

Oh, I'm not averse to these concertos and have many of each myself. Surprising how many recordings there are of the three concerti. It's just taking all three in at once. I may give that a try to see what happens!

Bartok’s 3rd PC with Keith Jarrett,live.

Now that you are in the mood for Bartok, conductor/composer Dennis Russell Davies states this recording is the “ finest we have “ of the Bartok 3rd PC.Certainly a fine slow mov.,Jarrett up to the demands elsewhere.BBC played in honor of Jarrett’s 77 th birthday May 8,2022; unfortunately , I understand he can no longer play.

Bartok: Piano Concerto No. 3, Sz. 119
Keith Jarrett, piano
New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra
Kazuyoshi Akiyama, conductor
Recorded 1985
