Thank you all for the welcome.

I went into my shell in August of 2016 with the arrival of lung cancer and it's been quite a journey. After my surgery and seemingly endless radiation, I was given the good news that I was clear. Then it was shortly after that, I managed to develop bladder cancer and my life took on another battle .The good news is that I recently was told I'm cancer free and I'm moving on. :D :D

Except for a few visits to NYC to be with my dear friend Brian ( maestro ) and his wonderful wife Theresa, my life has been rather bleak..no concerts, no travel . I ready to resume living again.
I'll celebrate by listening to one of my favorite recordings, Handel Keyboard Suites by Danny Driver.

Best to all.

H A R R I S !
You have no idea how inspiring it was to see your name pop up on CMG. You have been sorely missed for a long, long time. I had no idea what circumstances you were enduring; thank you for letting us know what has been going on since 2016. I am very happy to hear you are clear of cancer. I'm sure it has been a miserable time for you to go through this, though I'm also sure PEPPER did everything possible to make you feel comfortable. Not to have any concerts or musical associations for someone who loves music as much as you must have had some bad affects, but I hope, at least, you were able to enjoy some recorded music.

Congratulations on your recovery. We all hope you will be here as much as you can.

Warmest regards to you and Pepper - and stay on track!

I don't think I know this CMG contributor but it sounds as though he has been through the wars. That must be just absolutely dreadful and I hope he can enjoy his time in the sun for a long time to come.

Yes, we got to know Harris and Pepper when we occasionally had "meet-ups" in New York City some time ago. You would have liked Harris ... his love of music is very much like yours, Miss Belle! You may remember Harris from your earlier days on CMG. The plights in life that we go through can be debilitating. I have always felt, nonetheless, that among the best remedies for many maladies is hearing great music on a regular basis. Good for the body and the mind.

Completely in accordance with your sentiments about music. When things are pushed to their limits for me it's Bach and Beethoven, front and centre. What those two great men endured in their lifetimes we barely know about; the loss of 10 children and a wife for the former and deafness and liver disease (no medication) for the latter. And he "found no second self". You had to be stoic, even very tough, to survive and yet there's nothing in either of their music which suggests defeat; far from it. Beethoven was a man who, through his music, "....looks on tempests and is never shaken .... oh no, it is an ever fixed mark" (Shakespeare).

After those two it's Brahms. I feel he hid behind his music more than the other two composers I've mentioned. Though this is probably almost impossible - in the same way it's impossible for Shakespeare to hide his humanity; his personal values and ideologies - there is a sense in which Brahms isn't telling us really anything about himself at all. Beethoven's defiance of classical sonata conventions, sending it to the point of breaking, tells us something about him as a human being.

I'm open to debate about it.

Harris, your fight with cancer resonated very strongly with me. As far as I'm concerned if you've beaten it then you've proved that you are a survivor.

In the last 10 years I've had a triple bypass, treatment for prostate cancer (in remission) and got lucky this year when a back xray picked up an abdominal aortic aneurysm which has now been stented.

My way of looking at it is that I have cheated death three times now and am still moving forward. We are proud survivors my friend and may good health follow you from this point on!

Great to see you back on the forum.

Welcome back, Cliftwood!

Cancer is a real SOB, and I’m sorry it’s come after you twice, but I’m also pleased that you’ve managed to show it what for!
Black lives matter.

It was our first forum get together near Columbus Circle-there were many tables -I never got to actually meet them but do have photos I took. Regards, Len

Cliftwood, welcome back!
Good music is that which falls upon the ear with ease and quits the memory with difficulty.

Why ... why, handsome? I'm not sure about that! But that is me. Now you might not recognize me, all white hair now (what's left of it), a little more bent over thanks to sciatica, and a little less weight than back them. But the love for great music? That has even gotten stronger! I'm glad Lenny took those pictures. Lots of water over the dam since those days, but many of us are still here to talk about it! (Thank you, Lenny.)

Lance I remember after one event-possibly an opera we were all at? Anyway we ran into you down the subway-we were staying at the Newton hotel and you were just around the corner at the Days Inn-both hotels around 94thst and Bdway on the upper westside! Regards, Len :)
