Bruce Liu, pianist - new DGG "Waves" CD

Post by Lance » Sat Mar 02, 2024 12:58 am

Here is an interesting grouping of composers: Alkan - Rameau - Ravel. Hearing nothing but accolades about this pianist (superb Chopinist), but this one is of great interest because of the inclusion of music by Alkan (two pieces). Much Rameau of interest there, too, and Ravel's Miroirs. Anyone heard this CD yet? I have it on order.

I have auditioned Liu's new recording tonight [DGG 486 4400, "Waves"]. His Rameau is stunning, and the Alkan excellent, different from a Lewenthal or Viner approach. Ravel's Miroirs was stunning, but it was only in that work that I was bothered is a couple of notes that were going out of tune [i.e., beginning to "waver"], which is surprising given a major recital such as this. The acoustics were excellent. I am impressed thus far. Glad to have this one.
