Re: Sibelius 8
Some years ago I read a novel the subplot of which revolves around the existence, and eventual discovery, of the manuscript for Sibelius' Eighth Symphony. The book is titled "Winter Fire," authored by William R. Trotter. (Probably should have waited until April 2nd to post this )

I know not Winter Fire by Trotter but know his writing of a fine book: Priest of Music: The Life of Dimitri Mitropoulos. Do you recommend Winter Fire? As for Sibeliuis' "8," I would be curious - probably composed very late in his life when he may have been more inebriated. My favorite Sibelius symphonies remain Nos. 1 and 2. I have them all, of course.

Lance - I remember enjoying the book quite a bit.
Here's one synopsis - describes it as "excessively melodramatic on occasion" - which is ok by me.

Another overview:

As for the Eighth - I would be so curious as to how Sibelius further evolved from the very different Seventh. Would he have stayed with the single-movement structure? Would there be any dissonance? And, most important, would it be recognizable as Sibelian?

Re: Sibelius 8
You can listen to 3 little fragments of the 8th, but it’s impossible to come to any conclusions about what the whole piece would have been like. The longest fragment is dissonant in a suspensive way, like it would be if you were waiting for it to resolve. The 7th starts that way also.
Black lives matter.
