Elton John: Jesus was gay
Elton John: Jesus was gay
Just yet another problem when you make a God into a physical being.
JESUS was GAY - according to the gospel of SIR ELTON JOHN.
The singer makes his controversial claim about the Lord in a new US interview that will enrage America's bible belt.
Elton, 62, declares as he pours out his heart to a magazine: "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems."
He adds: "Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East - you're as good as dead."
He goes on in the same interview to describe how he and DAVID FURNISH, 47 - now his "husband" - first got together.
The pop veteran tells Parade magazine: "I was attracted to David immediately. He was very well dressed, very shy. The next night we had dinner.
"After it, we fell in love very quickly."
He said of previous lovers: "I'd always choose someone younger. I wanted to smother them with love. I'd take them around the world, try to educate them.
"One after another they got a Cartier watch, a Versace outfit, maybe a sports car.
"They didn't have jobs. They were reliant on me.
"In six months they were bored and hated my guts because I'd taken their lives and self-worth away. I hadn't intended to."

Re: Elton John: Jesus was a gay
I don't agree with the following song, but I have no particular problem with it. The only thing wrong with the song is that Jesus was celibate according to my view of Him. However, he could very well have been gay and celibate. And I doubt he was black as a matter of fact, but if he was, so what.
Jesus was a Gay Black Hippie Jew (by Fergus Ray-Murray)
Jesus was a Jew till the day he died
And his followers too for many years beside
Till going to Damascus Saint Paul decides
That the gentiles ought to come along for the ride.
Jesus was a gay black hippie Jew,
And if you hate that then I guess he will forgive you.
Jesus was a gay black hippie Jew;
Some say he was a secret Buddhist too...
With his sandals and his beard and his messy hair
He'd be shunned by rednecks everywhere
And he'd turn the other cheek if you hit him there
Yet a pacifist Christian is pretty rare.
The folks in the region of Palestine
Were mostly fairly dark-skinned in Bible times
Yet he's straight-haired and blue-eyed in our painters' minds
Making god in our own image is a telling sign.
Christ always preferred the company of men
And he never was ashamed of his love for them
There are some who think Saint John was his 'special friend'
But many more the idea would just offend.

Re: Elton John: Jesus was a gay
Some gay people have made an exercise of identifying historical figures as possible or likely homosexuals. I would not make too much of an offhand remark from a pop cult figure, even if it does represent his true opinion. And in calling the opinion into question, I would certainly not make it a reason to question Christian belief in the unique nature of Jesus. Facts about his life combined with plain power of reasoning suffice to do that in those who are not moved by faith to another view.
The notion that Jesus was gay is up there with the notion that Mary Magdalene was his secret wife or at least lover. There is no evidence for it. One gospel (John--the latest and least historically minded) says that there was one disciple whom Jesus "loved." All that would mean, if it were true, is that he had a special friend among the disciples, which makes him exactly human, something that even the most devout Christians do not deny.
We know nothing of homosexuality as a variation of human sexuality among Jews of Jesus' time (the pagans are a different story), though we assume that if it appeared overtly it caused the greatest scandal and the most severe punishment. Some of Jesus' behavior and the end he came to were already scandalous almost beyond the redemption of his cause. It is highly doubtful that his ministry could have in addition to all that survived something as repugnant to his potential followers as known homosexuality.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Re: Elton John: Jesus was a gay
It is a sad commentary on Saul's level of tolerance for other religions, given his frequently stated attitude towards gay people, that he considers his post here amusing, whereas a gay march in Israel is to him, a disgrace.
I should add that I have no opinion on what Elton John said. My respect for people is not influenced by their sexuality. But, given the tenor of Saul's frequent remarks about gay people, it is obvious why he posted this, and it wasn't to be nice.

What exactly is the "problem" to which you refer?SaulChanukah wrote:Just yet another problem......

Let's put the Gospel of the fossilised Sir Elton back with the rest of the Dead Sea scrolls, shall we?
Although there's obviously something suspect about a Holy Trinity that excludes anything female. I mean, how did the Son arrive under such conditions?

The Virgin Birth, you mean. The Immaculate Conception refers to Mary's conception (a common mistake).slofstra wrote:Ever heard of Mary and the Immaculate Conception?absinthe wrote:Let's put the Gospel of the fossilised Sir Elton back with the rest of the Dead Sea scrolls, shall we?

There may be no female persons in the Trinity (though Christian modernists argue the non-genderedness of God), but the elevation of Mary to the status of near-goddess can be viewed as an aspect of early Christian syncretism, the Roman world having been greatly influenced by cults in which female worship figures were prominent (which is in turn an expression of the apparent atavistic need to find the feminine in the supernatural).
Long live Artemis of the Ephesians!

I misread the thread title when I first saw it. I thought it said "Jesus was a goy." I am glad THAT canard hasn't been raised here.

I have to admit that this poem is funny because of its absolute absurdity. Just one more example of PC idiocies.
