Fergie Caught In Tabloid Sting Trying To Sell Access To Royals
By Peter Fowler at 3:50 pm Eastern
The Duchess of York is reportedly "devastated" and "regretful" after she was caught out in a tabloid newspaper sting offering to sell access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew for £500,000.
Britain's News of the World filmed Sarah Ferguson on Tuesday night plotting to sell access to her trade envoy ex-husband and taking a US$40,000 cash deposit from its undercover reporter.
Prince Andrew works as an unpaid special representative for the government run UK Trade & Investment.
"Unknown to the Prince, Fergie PROMISED to introduce us to him, CLAIMED he'd help fix lucrative deals and DEMANDED a cut of all profits. She vowed: "Look after me and he'll look after you. . . you'll get it back tenfold. I can open any door you want," the newspaper said.
"That opens up everything you would ever wish for. And I can open any door you want. And I will for you," the Duchess, who reportedly has money troubles, told the undercover reporter.
Ms Ferguson divorced Prince Andrew in 1996, and has since become involved with charity work as well as writing children's books and fronting Weight Watchers' US operation.
Her spokeswoman told The Times she was "devastated" and "regretful" after she was filmed doing the deal and in front of a pile of cash.
Ms Ferguson is due in Los Angeles to receive an award from the children's charity Variety for her work with underprivileged children.
Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the allegations.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

A couple of weeks ago, her daughters were photographed
in one of our magazines stretched out on the floor and
drinking from a bottle at a party. What fun provided by
"our royalty".

On the other hand... the UK media are up to their old tricks again. Just recently, the Sunday Mail published an article on Lord Triesman, head of Britain's Soccer World Cup Bid. The article exposed Triesman making some outrageous claims prejudicial to Britain's bid to host the 2018 World Cup. As a result, Triesman resigned in disgrace. The information was gleaned via a 'honeytrap' with an ex-mistress who wore a wire. His silly and bizzare claims of corruption on the part of rival bidders were, it is commonly agreed, no more than the attempts of a foolish old man trying to impress a younger lover over a 'private' supper conversation. As outraged soccer fans have since asked, where was the public interest in publishing a story which may end up costing the UK many millions of dollars as the result of a failed bid?
A similar event occured here in Melbourne just a few days ago. A married State Minister was followed (by the media) and photographed leaving a gay night club. After the story was aired he resigned in disgrace, his family devasted. Again, one asks where is the public interest in such a story?
