Could We Have A "Rogues Gallery" of Pictures?

Post by Cosima___J » Wed Oct 27, 2010 10:06 pm

Do you ever wonder what other CMGers look like? It would be neat to put a face with a name. Since I live in Georgia, it's a little far to come for the CMG get togethers that are sometimes held for people living in the NYC area. I've exchanged pictures with a few of you, but it might be interesting to have pictures all in one place at CMG, strictly on a voluntary basis, needless to say. Is anybody interested in doing that? Or is it just another one of my late night harebrained ideas?

I think it's a great idea--I have photos of this group from 2 forum dinners, the last one with me and my wife in attendance. Regards, Len

What I would like to see is one massive diagram of members and their various political/religious affiliations. :D Then, when we add portraits, we'll know where to draw horns

Oh HA HA! Hey Strad, you more than anyone else, I would like to see a picture of. And I wouldn't draw horns on it. But no halos either.

(Forgive the awkward sentence structure above. I must have been educated in one of those Catholic schools)

I don't need any diagrams--I have my photos of our HORN--and what's best is he's a fellow opera supporter! Regards, Len :)

If I had a distinguished look like that, captured in a professional portrait, I'd have the "guts" too. :)

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

We used to have this on one of the old CMG sites - there was Ralph and Frank Berglas and a bunch of others - Nightmare Alice, I think... For all I know, it may be floating around out there in cyberspace as I am not aware that it was ever taken down or cancelled out...

OK, I'll play stupid and admit I don't know how to post pictures on CMG. Do I just
provide an attachment like an e-mail or a URL? If you can guide me through it, I
will promise to post a picture, maybe two.

I thought as much. I took a number of pictures at our last meeting, and unfortunately never learned how to post pix on CMG. So I sent a disk to Lance, hoping that if anyone could do it, he might be able to. At the same time, I did see the note about attachments - not knowing how relevant that might be. And then, it's been my impression that our friend leads a busy life, even apart from this issue - so I haven't asked him about it.

And, being an imaginative bunch, can't you just form mental portraits of that glamorous and handsome CMG gang?

No. You have to have it hosted someplace else, then provide a link to it. Click on the Img button and insert the URL of the picture's location.

Henry (Living Stradivarius) and I are working to host my picture to another site and
provide a link to it. Maybe he will be kind enough (or John "Guitarist") will instruct us,
so we don't clog up the space here at CMG, with graphics that take up "attachment
quotas". I'm anxious to learn since I'm reasonably capable around computers but have
never felt a need to post "pictures" or album covers here at CMG. I like the idea of a
rogue's gallery. I already have a list of regular posters here, and most of their given
names, but pictures would be most interesting, and maybe we'll finally see the pics
from the last reunion.

Hi all, here is a new set of instructions. I will start with the first step (image posting) and get to the second (image hosting) later.

Here is the link to the old instructions: http://classicalmusicguide.com/viewtopi ... 10&t=25172
After reviewing them it seems they aren't very clear. So here's my second take:

1. Let's begin by practicing general image posting on CMG.
What you need to do is type Image before and after (respectively) the URL of the image you want to display. As practice, let's post a random picture on Google onto CMG. For example, go to google.com, right click on the google logo, select Copy Image Link (or Copy Image URL). Then paste that URL in CMG and enclose it with those tags like this: Image.

The result is this:
Image

2. Next we will go over how to put your images on the web so they have their own URLs you can paste here...

Henry, the above is what I got when I tried to follow your instructions. It should
have been a Google logo superimposed on a musical cleft. So what's next?

Hi David, from what I can see in your post, you pasted the search result URL of the entire page rather than the URL of the specific picture in question. Either that or google images doesn't allow direct linking of photos on their page. I guess a better test would be to try an image you see on a news site like cnn.com. Go to CNN.com and right click on any picture you see, copy image URL, then paste it here with the enclosing tags.

David sent me his photo via e-mail to share here:

Ladies, fan mail can only be received via PM for the moment :D. Please form a line on the right, single file thanks

2. Here's step 2 for photo hosting.
I have created a CMG-wide account for everyone here to use. Go to http://www.photobucket.com and login with the name cmg_club and password cmg123. Then upload a photo. After you've uploaded the photo, click the green SAVE button. When you view the picture again, put your mouse over it. Several URLs will appear in a overlay below the photo. Pick the URL with the [IMG] tag, copy it, and paste it here! They've done the work of adding the [IMG] tags for you.

I agree, it has too much clutter. But I got used to using it, not sure if there are free alternatives that are significantly better.

Well I made that cmg photo website a favorite site so I can get to the album anytime easily--I hope you got the photos I emailed you too. It looked to me like I could have uploaded the whole file from my computer right to that album--then anyone with the password could get there and take a look. Regards, Len

Now the next question is, "How Do You Caption The Pictures on Photobucket?"
That way, we can actually know who we are looking at. And no pictures of Tom
Cruise ID'd as Werner (AKA Werner Isler) born 1922.

I'm getting frustrated with trying to post my picture. I followed the instructions where you scroll down to "Upload Attachment" etc. But when I hit "add the file", I get the message that "The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 256 KiB"

So what can I do now???

The problem is I don't know who was at the reunion on sight, with the exception of
good ol' Lance, whose photo has graced these pages a few times. Len will have to
oblige us and caption them, if he would be so kind. Now that I know what Chalkie
looks like, I'll never mistake him for anyone else (animal, vegetable, or mineral) again.
Nor Len, who has also had a mug shot on here at one time or another. The rest of youse
is gonna have to be more generous with your mugs, and that includes you Henry. Thanks
for the instructions and setting up the account for CMG, BTW.
