Black Friday
When will this idiocy stop? Now we have stores that will be open for Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving Day! And who are the idiots who go out to the mall in the middle of the night to be the first in line to shop till they drop and reach the limits of all of their credit cards. It may be called Black Friday, but next month it will be In The Red Friday when the bills arrive in the mailbox.
Re: Black Friday
Gosh - "idiocy" is the perfect word to describe something which otherwise is indescribable - especially considering the present state of the world - economic, political, social. But onwards to the ramparts, shoppers!
We are coursing towards the ultimate desecration of the Christmas holiday - or, perhaps, we already have attained it. We should now await the news stories and videos of crazed portions of humanity trampling each other to max out whatever remains of their credit limit.

Be grateful that a higher power is acting to stimulate consumer demand when the government is doing nothing.
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
-- Johann Sebastian Bach

That makes as much sense as the "movement".IcedNote wrote:"Black Friday teaches us that it's ok to block the sidewalk and camp out to consume, but not if your [sic] trying to change the world." -OccupyChicago

"I guess we're all, or most of us, the wards of the nineteenth-century sciences which denied existence of anything it could not reason or explain. The things we couldn't explain went right on but not with our blessing... So many old and lovely things are stored in the world's attic, because we don't want them around us and we don't dare throw them out."
— John Steinbeck, The Winter of Our Discontent

Re: Black Friday
Why is it called "black Friday" anyway? And when did this start? Don't remember hearing it with this meaning before last Tuesday.
Actually, there's a Wikipedia article:

Guess I'm just out of touch.
