My Mother has Passed Away At 95 .

Post by THEHORN » Wed Oct 31, 2012 9:32 pm

My mother, jeanette Berger, passed away peacefully this afternoon at the advanced age of 95. She remained amazingly sharp until very close to the end and looked quite a bit younger than her age .
I thought the old girl was indestructible ! Wherever she may be, I hope she's having a wonderful time !
She was not particularly musical but was always interested in my musical endeavors and was certainly aware of
some of the most famous classical musicians of our time .
She always used to amuse me by pointing out how rotund james Levine was , and if she did not like the way a musician's hair looked. she used to criticize him in no uncertain terms . She lived a long and happy life .

What a great innings your mother had and to be fully compos mentis until the end is a blessing (I hope I'm that lucky).

While you will be feeling very sad, your pride and love is very evident in this post and I am sure you will find many stories to share when you celebrate the life that was your mothers.

My mother died in 2005 and in so many ways I really miss her. She was someone I could call and tell her about my day if I needed to and occasionally I revert to that state then realise that she is not there. Even after they pass on, we are still their sons and daughters.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences

I am very sorry for your loss.

Although we are grown-ups, and perhaps "seniors" as well, it is always hard to lose a parent. Parenthetically, October 31 is the Yahrzeit (anniversary) of my father's death in 1996.

Robert, thank you for sharing this with us, and please know that you have my sympathies. I live with my 92-year-old mother, and she has been declining on a gradual slope for a number of years. She is at the point where she can only perform the ADLs (activities of daily living) of moving around as needed, using the toilet, eating food that is prepared for her, and dressing herself. Her eyesight is also failing badly, and though not demented she has no sharpness left at all. By a clinical assessment, she is just short of needing a nursing home, but her basic constitution is so strong that I expect her to be around for a while yet (both at home and in life, I mean). I don't tell you this to make this thread about me, but to give you some specifics of how I can sympathize with someone who has a very old mother, and because I can anticipate that feeling of loss that you must have.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

My condolences to you. My mom is 93, and was a wonderful violinist in her heyday. She can't play anymore due to gnarled fingers and shoulder bursitis, but like your dear late mother, can still conjure up witty recollections of characters like one of her old fellow string players--he always played all the notes, but everyone wished he wouldn't. :)

Robert, my heart goes out to you. My mother recently passed away at 95 and I still am heart broken. It will take us a long time to move on. So let's just keep their memories alive and that should make us get through this emotional ordeal a little easier, my friend.

Regards,
Mel
