Do we really have to capitulate regarding "between 10 to 20" or its equivalent "between 10-20"? I don't believe that all those literate reporters who now use this didn't learn better from their high school English teachers, but I don't think I've seen it written correctly a single time in the last two years. I think even decent writers have just given up. And that means I'll be tortured by it until the day I can no longer read. :(

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

I don't know about you, but I don't have a King Canute complex. :)

It's harder for a math teacher. I'd be drummed out of the corps if I ever said to a class "pick a number between five to fifteen." And then I'd have to say inclusive or exclusive, but that's another matter.

The rules for word choice in science and mathematics (and philosophy) are quite different from journalism and informal speech and writing, aren't they?

Rules. Who needs them?
