Do we have any David Attenborough fans here?

Post by rwetmore » Sun Aug 09, 2015 5:42 am

I just got the new BBC Blu-ray video series Micro Monsters, Galapagos, and Kingdom of Plants (all 3D, but I only watch in 2D) hosted by famous naturalist, David Attenborough. All three are excellent and highly insightful documentaries with great footage. I have virtually all of David's many hosted and narrated nature documentaries and thoroughly enjoy them and him.

Yes. His 2-program series, "Rise of the Animals," has been rerunning on cable TV recently.

I'd like to see that one.

David has a unique charm and an infectious enthusiasm unlike anyone else who does what he does. He really is a treasure. I wish him good health and many more years doing these projects.

I have now bought the second set, which includes 'Alive 3D', 'Conquest of the Skies 3D' and the 'Penguin King 3D'. All are excellent with Conquest of the skies probably being the best overall. I only watch in 2d, so I can't comment on the 3D, but I would certainly recommend these.

Amazon lists these as being region 2, but they must actually be region free (or region code 0) since they play on my Blu-ray player, which as far as I know, is region 1 only. I got mine from a British seller on Amazon.

There is new release coming this month called 'Life Story'. I have the British version which was released a year or so ago, and it's really excellent. One of David's and the BBC's best to date. There is also a recent series of his called 'The Hunt', which will probably be released in the US sometime this year. Both of these I think were shot with the RED camera, which is like 5K resolution, so the detail -- even downscaled to regular HD (about 2K resolution) looks fantastic.

Yes, he is a legend and loved by most everyone. He presents himself with such a large degree of class, he transcends even politics, which is quite a feat.

Without question he's a real National Treasure.

He filmed the Queens Speech each Xmas from 86-91.

He's good at working with primates.
