New TV at last

Post by jbuck919 » Sat Feb 11, 2017 9:22 pm

Went to Best Buy a couple of days ago and finally bought a new TV, a 43" Hisense smart TV, after being without one for three years. Lenny already knows a little about this. The recording for later play is with cable service provided by the satellite service (Dish) and I hope will not be exorbitant. Someone is coming tomorrow (Sunday!) weather permitting to hook up a new receiver and make sure everything else is in order. Everything I had in the way of connections was obsolete. I am already able to take streaming off Netflix, etc. Discovered this great newer series Sherlock (Benedict Cumerbatch) which only had nine episodes. My sister Jeanne convinced me (it did not take much convincing) that after a lifetime with TV the medium had actually kept up and with the times and that I had been missing a lot. I do feel like a kid with a new toy.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Good for you! I nursed my old CRT set for years and actually had it repaired once, but when it conked out, I couldn't wait to replace it. There's a bewildering array of choices nowadays and the consumer reviews didn't help me, so finally I set myself a price limit and got the largest HD screen at the price. I should have done it long ago, but in some things I avoid change as long as I can.

Thanks for the kind words, John. Darn 60 Minutes. I get to watch it for the first time in years and it is an abbreviated version devoted to the Grammies, about which I couldn't care less.

The young, capable, and ambitious guy required six hours on a Sunday in a snowstorm when there must have been nearly 10 inches on the ground already when he left. Did leave me with no more paperwork than getting my incomer tax returns ready (more complicated for someone like me than you might think.) In case anyone is interested, I made the morning service but like most people had to leave immediately and forego the wonderful breakfast they always have on the second Sunday of the month. There were already two inches on the untreated road and me with no four-wheel drive or true snow tires. Among other things, this young man had to change drastically the location of the satellite dish itself. But he answered or anticipated all my questions, and all I have to do now is play.

Oh and Len, the recording feature is built right into the received with no extra charge. I can actually record three programs at the same time. LBJ would have been in heaven.

John those are great features! And I sure would appreciate 3 program recordings instead of my 2. Regards, Len :)
