Great new idea for local government

Post by jbuck919 » Mon Apr 24, 2017 7:42 am

A version of this, which was proposed at a meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Washington County, NY (one county north of me), is currently being tried at the national level in Venezuela and Turkey, among other places.

FORT EDWARD — A Kingsbury man had a unique proposal for Washington County Supervisors Friday — get rid of elections and political parties, and let God decide our leaders.

A teary-eyed Tony Cerro took the mic at Friday’s meeting to make his pitch to the county supervisors.

“We are in trouble,” Cerro told the board. “Our system is wrong.”

Cerro told the board he wanted to “get rid of political parties and elections, and turn back to God for guidance.”

He criticized the board for opening every meeting with a prayer, and then doing business “against God’s will right after.” He did not offer specific examples of what the county does that he feels goes against “God’s will.”

“It’s hypocritical,” he said.

Cerro said he also wanted to take his message to the national level.

“I voted for Trump, not because he is perfect, but because he was a better option,” he said. “I want to go to Washington and explain to him the system I propose, but I’m afraid I would get arrested. You people have the ears of our senators and representatives in the federal government.”

None of the 16 supervisors in attendance asked any questions of Cerro.

The American Civil Liberties Union says any proposal like Cerro’s would violate the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

“These actions violate the Establishment Clause, which recognizes that religious freedom thrives best when the government stays out of it. Matters of religious belief should be left to individuals and faith communities, not to governments or political majorities,” the group said in a brief on its website.

P.S. Is there any way to change text color now?

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

John I do hope the local governments can do better than this plan-who knows-if the federal shut down takes place we`ll need all the local government help we can get. Len :(

Here I was, expecting to find out just how God would exercise direct day-to-day governance, but Tony Cerro is clueless. What a disappointment!

By the way, after watching the Japanese channel NHK World, I've come to realize that the main religion in Japan, Shinto, is polytheistic - wildly so. Some 80,000 Shinto shrines are dedicated individually to an immense number of deities, more than 100 of them. I'd assumed that by now, all of the world's significant religions were monotheistic, but obviously I was wrong. I don't suppose Tony Cerro has any idea of this, and if he did he wouldn't care; but if we were to be governed by any god, I'd prefer it to be Omoikane, the deity of wisdom.

Of course the most direct way to deal with the hypocrisy Cerro complains about would be to stop opening the local board's meetings with (presumably Protestant Christian) prayer. But I don't suppose he'd like that either.

Highlight text, then click the paint drop icon left of "Normal" pop-up menu in the formatting bar.

You may have to move the code around once you select a color swatch from the paint droplet. Look at my sample code in green.

Code: Select all

Pink makes you blink

It doesn't work for me either. I highlight the bit I want colored, click the drop and choose a color from the palette, but it changes nothing. The code is inserted in my draft message, but the appear like that at the top of my text, not at the beginning and end of the part I want colored.

Of course I can fix that by editing my draft by moving the codes like this. But that's not how it's supposed to work, and it's not what jserraglio says to do. Looks like yet another bug in this confounded forum software.

Here's what I do. Inconvenient, to be sure, but it works.

1. Open a blank message.

2. Click drop icon and select a swatch: codes in square brackets will pop up in the message window, like this:

Code: Select all

3. Type the text to be colorized in the space between the two codes:
{color=#0000FF}The text you want to be blue goes in here[/color}

4. Click Preview or Submit.
Here is the blue type

Anything you type outside of the square brackets will appear as black text.
This forum software has many a bug which may make you sick, but should not make you ill.

You're using the code icon "</>". Don't. I used it only to show you what you'll see when you click the color swatch. Type between the two codes.

******************************************************************

ONE: Select color and look for the codes in the message window
Image

TWO: Type a message between the two codes:

THREE: Click "Preview"
Image

FOUR: Click "Submit". You should see red :D

I just can't figure it out-actually all I care about is the regular color. Regards, Len
