Need Printer Advice

Post by lennygoran » Wed Jul 26, 2017 6:18 am

My old printer which is a canon pixma mp160 and owes me nothing started sending this message: "Ink Absorber Almost Full"-however it gave me a chance to print by hitting the start button on the printer. Still instead of trying to replace the absorber I would like to buy a new inexpensive printer. I didn't realize there were now wireless printers which sound good to me-getting new connections into sockets is always a problem for me because things at the computer desk are very tight and I'd have to struggle from the back with wires. I see there are some really cheap models but consumers reports doesn't rate them that highly-for example this model which sells for under $50.

Canon PIXMA MG3022

I found a discussion of fixing the problem but it looked like too much for a dinosaur like me.

Len, I have a Brother MFC-J825DW and am reasonably satisfied with it. Not expensive as I recall.

Henry thanks-it looks nice-otoh I don't need things like faxing ability or other office uses--I checked on prices here. Does the wireless work smoothly for you-was setting that up easy? Regards, Len

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 6970 wireless with which I'm perfectly satisfied. I just went to Staples and got what looked like the best deal for what I needed. Sometimes the advice of trained staff is hard to replace with one's own online research. The price was very reasonable, but not less than $50. I'm not sure it's realistic to expect to pay so little for a printer.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

John thanks, I'll look into this-someone suggested this one--Canon Pixma Mx920. Regards, Len

Brother printers are notorious for having wifi issues. They just go offline for no reason at all and just as mysteriously come back online again - not when you need it of course. Avoid.

Wow, thanks-didn't know that-can printers that work with wifi also be connected and work plugged in to the computer's USB port? Regards, Len

I've had no problems with the wireless. As for the setup, I've had assistance from a couple of techies in the family. Not sure how I'd do if I didn't have their help.

Henry thanks, I'll bear that in mind-I'm not good at these things and actually getting worse rather than improving. Regards, Len :(
