Another incredible episode of What's My Line

Post by jbuck919 » Wed Nov 08, 2017 6:40 am

Unbelievably, none of the panel recognized Kentucky Colonel Sanders or knew what he did.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Nice, but still more amazing, I think, is something else on Youtube, a 1956 appearance on I've Got A Secret by a 96 year old man who was present at Ford's Theater when Lincoln was shot.

I thought the Geritol sponsorship was priceless! Does it derive from the world "geri-atric"? And the 'potency' in the advertising blurb...!! Colonel Sanders reminds me of that other famous colonel - Tom Parker. Does the military rank imbue them with additional status and authority, or is it fake? And the host and panel in dinner suits and long dresses look kind of quaint.

Never heard of Geritol? At least the show was never sponsored by a cigarette manufacturer, as was I've Got a Secret. The rank is fake. In the US "Kentucky Colonel" is an entirely honorific term, and limited to the South. In the famous Scopes Trial (which happened in Tennessee), fundamentalist William Jennings Bryan was granted that title, while it was denied to his opponent, the atheistic Clarence Darrow.

Also, Donald, I have seen that episode more than once. The man was only four years old and only remembered Booth jumping onto the stage. Thanks for posting the link.

Geritol, which tasted absolutely awful, is the basis for the famous Vitameatavegiamin episode of I Love Lucy.

I could use a dose of it right now as I'm confined to barracks with very painful back problems, sleepless nights and bi-weekly physiotherapy!! Giving birth to 4 big babies has wrecked my lower spine. I also noticed a funny "What's My Line" with Francis the Talking Mule.
Len, your link to Donald O'Conner didn't work! I also remember a hilarious Lucy (she annoyed me often) when she worked on a chocolate production line and couldn't keep up with it so she kept eating the chocolates!! The earlier episodes with Ricky were much funnier than the later ones with Uncle Harry who used to yell "LOOO-SEAL". Everyone yelled. A lot.

Which in turn reminds me of a great pun. An Irish friend was walking in the office and his shoe broke. He immediately burst into song: "You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Heel."

Go on, you know it's funny.

Belle hope you can get relief for the back pain-I know how terrible that can be. I'll try again with the link. I previewed and see it's on my screen. Regards, Len

Thank you, Len. I'll have a watch of your link. It's after midnight here and yet another sleepless night with my wretched back. Meanwhile, the Adonis sleeps soundly in another room!!
