Sudden and shocking. I joined CompuServe in 1985 exclusively for the forums, specifically the music forum, and have spent a sizable chunk of my online life there. Membership and activity has declined to the point that we had almost shut ourselves down, but even so...

In another of the CIS forums I found this, posted by that forum's Community Manager:
You should know it was NOT CompuServe who made the decision to close the forums. You know AOL owns us, and AOL was bought by Verizon/Oath earlier this year. It is their decision to shut us down. No one involved in forum management had a clue.
The Compuserve forums have been running on automatic pilot for years and I can't think why Verizon would feel the need to end it all. But so be it.

The classical music forum over there still has a few active members who would be excellent contributors to Classical Music Guide. I've invited them to come here, read some of the threads, and if it looks like their kind of place, to register. I hope they do, and that we all give them a warm welcome.

I wonder if they are in cahoots with Rider "University."

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
