I hadn't been aware of this controversy but it was mentioned on the Today show this morning. Regards, Len

The unabashedly racist logo I grew up with.

Image

The teams of the die-hard East Coast League of the Old Confederacy (the Yankees, the Phillies and of course the Boston 'No Negroes Need Apply' Red Sox made those Indians teams of the 40s and 50s look emancipated, and in many ways they were.

Still you had Larry Doby-I'm no fan of his because as you know I've always been a Yankee fan! What's new on the Washington Redskin front! Regards, Len

I haven't seen this in I don't know how long, but the "wahoo" gesture (mimicking the swing of a tomahawk) used to be universal among school kids, and totally accepted by school administrations (unlike, say, the finger). It had to be explained to me at the time, and I'll tell you, half of them were black.

Len, it's Redskins plural, not Redskin. I happened to live there the only time they won the Superbowl, and will someone please explain to me, who could not care less about said supposed sport, as should not have the then super-educated elite population of Washington DC and vicinity, why they were called The Hogs.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

In baseball, it's the tomahawk chop and has nothing to do with Chief Wahoo.

As a Washington Redskin (that's Redskin singular, not Redskins), one might have been one of The Hogs in the 80s and 90s.

I swear I am not making this up, but the pastor at the Episcopal church where I then played the organ wanted "Hail to the Redskins" as the postlude after they won the Superbowl. I declined.
