No, I'm not a collector of Edith Piaf, but some of you may have seen a commercial with her singing "Non, je ne regrette rien." I had none of her records but there was something in this song that attracted me to her rendering of it. So, naturally, one has to have a complete recording of the song. She DOES, certainly, put the song across. I ended up with a 2-CD set on the NotNow label [395] with 45 songs that have been remastered from early years right on through to the end of her life. Such a tragic life, losing a daughter, a husband to an air crash, then marrying a man 20 years her junior who shortly after died in an auto crash. Her French is perfect for this song and others that I played. The Little Sparrow knew how to do it!

I've seen the commercial, but of course knew that famous rendition from long ago. All I can say about her songs and those of her ilk is "The non-great French songbook."

Ah yes, but at least you recognized it! She was adored by her public, French and otherwise, and her recordings are still coming forth. I am among the last on that bandwagon. Still, I give her much credit for putting her songs across so that even a devoted classical music enthusiast like me took some notice! Funny, I forgot the commercial it appears on but didn't forget the song.

You may never believe this, but I am on a PIAF binge of late! Certain songs just stay with one. Her recordings still sell very well from what I understand. Reissues and more reissues all remastered and sounding darn good!
