The greatest quiz show upset of all time

Post by jbuck919 » Sun Aug 12, 2018 5:22 pm

I do not like getting these Windows 10 pocket suggestions, and wish I could figure out how to turn them off, because almost all news is bad. (As one of my college professors, Walter Kaufman, said, everything is awful and always has been.) Nevertheless, I could not resist this one. I have retired from the activity because it was simply too much work to write all the questions and manage the meets. Still, I could answer every question in this program, and could have written many of them myself. (You must be patient with the commercial, and I am sorry that a direct YouTube link does not work.)

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

I believe that was Walter Kaufmann, with two n's rather than one. At least it is if it was the same historian of philosophy who rehabilitated Nietzsche in the 1950's.

It's true, the BBC does have a number of old-fashioned quiz shows on radio and TV, as well as some pseudo-quiz shows like "The News Quiz" which use the format but are actually setups for the comedian panel members. As far as I know, commercial TV doesn't have any. As with the old American shows, they are both entertaining and educational; the BBC still considers one of its purposes, justifying the license fee, to be educating the public. And apparently a good many of the British public take to being educated, whereas it seems too few of our compatriots do...

I am sorry for the misspelling. I'm not getting any younger, you know. 8) Yes, in his time Kaufmann, who died far too young (in his 50s), was considered the greatest Nietzsche scholar in the world. His translations of the major works are still standard, though modern biographers tend to ignore him. Also, Nietzshe, an over-rated philosopher if ever there was one, never needed "rehabilitation," because he never fell out of favor. He is far more important as a literary figure.

And John F, back in Maryland I was a routine follower of My Word and My Music on Saturday morning. Now in that case I could never have been competitive. Incredibly, the station had to procure vinyl to play the programs, which were already long in reruns.
