Do men belong in the YWCA women's changing rooms?

Here a site that popped up. What's your opinion? I had no idea this was happening in some places. I do see more rest room signs for either/or. But at the YWCA swimming pool, at least in this town, I knew nothing about.

No they don't, Lance; obviously the question carries its own answer. The argument, which I don't accept, is that they put on a bit of lippy and stockings, say they are women, and, lo and behold, they are women.

But the transgender activists - or many of them - are quite vicious. I'm not at all surprised at the campaign this woman suffered. At protests in Australia and New Zealand, they can be extremely aggressive, including one man bashing a 70-year-old woman in the face. He was charged but released without conviction. In Britain, male rapists who say they now identify as women are jailed in women's prisons, where at least one has raped again.

I accept that gender dysmorphia is a real thing, but it applies to about 5% of those who claim they suffer it.

Agreed. Reasonable accommodations need to be made for trans , but also by trans.

I would expect the question which heads this discussion to be asked by any 10 year old. And I'd answer it as being asked by a child and not worthy of anything, apart from "when you grow up...."

Well, of course, I know the "proper" answer, too. Twenty years ago (maybe more) we wouldn't even think of asking such a question. How our world has changed!

The emergence of trans people as a visible element in society is posing challenges that society hasn't had to face before. I think accomodation needs to be made for trans people, but it also needs to be made for everyone else who have to deal with them. Activists for trans rights need to consider that trans people will not be accepted until the "cis" community feels comfortable with their presence in places like public restrooms and changing rooms. It's going to be up to the trans individuals to figure out how to do this, and it may mean using men's facilities even when they're dressed up as women.
