The greatest concert I have ever heard, including classical. Leonard Cohen, age 79 Live in Dublin DVD video.
Three hours. 8 stunning encores.
Cohen's backing band were all virtuosos. Guitarist Javier Mas plays three instruments I never heard of: bandurria, laud and archilaud.

Re: What are you listening to? Jazz, World, New Age, Rock, etc.
A couple of hours ago I pulled out this 1984 Warner release, which I hadn't heard in 35 years, Van Dyke Parks' Jump! Upon release it sold in only limited quantities, though it's been available on CD many years. Why it hasn't gone down as a classic of American musical theatre is a mystery, but the likely reason is that its lyrics--by Parks and another writer--use intact Harris' semi-literate Deep South dialect. It's a charmer all the same. Music composed by Parks.

OK, I'll give this a shot to see if anyone notices:
I am a big fan of the pianist Emile Pandolfi. He has a batch of recordings of popular/film/classical music which he performs in his own arrangements. For some it probably will be schmaltzy and overly-arpeggioed and therefore an immediate turn-off. Many will think of him as a cruise-ship musician, I'd bet. But I spin Emile's discs often as a beautiful intermezzo during the day. (PS - my wife loves to hear his sounds coming down from my loft/listening room - as a break from, as she says, all that Shostakovich.)
But I love this stuff. Here's just one:

Pop tunes which are 60 years old this year!!
These were mostly great for dancing and partying. And those pop singers had talent! There were some good melodies and arrangements amongst this lot! And it's amazing how pop music can evoke so many memories!! It was a huge year for the Brits. It's my guilty secret!

As John Lennon once said, along with many evergreen songs, the Beatles also wrote a lot of schlock. The greatest Brit rock bands are The Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, and Pink Floyd, three of which (Stones, Kinks and Zeppelin} I heard live in their prime.

Well, this is hardly a ringing endorsement from somebody who thinks John Wayne was a 'great actor'!!!
