"Gorillas in the Mist" w/Sigourney Weaver
Some films make a huge impression on me, and Gorillas in the Mist is one. This is the story of Dian Fossey, a young anthropolgist who travels to the African mountains to study rare gorillas. In this incredible paradise, which she describes as being "as close to God as you can get," her interest in the gorillas turns to passion and finally an obsession. Not even her lover, photographer Bob Campbell (portrayed by Byran Brown) can tear her away ... or stop her from risking her life to protect the gorillas from poachers and animal traders. Desperate to save her "family" from extinction, Fossey searches for justice, but in the end settles for revenge.
Another "flame" of mine is Sigourney Weaver, who does a spectacular job of acting in this unforgettable film. My DVD just arrived [Universal 20421, 130 minutes, colour].
Was anybody else touched by this film as yours truly?

I enjoyed it very much. It didn't spare Dian Fossey, who of course had already by that time been debunked from her National Geographic image, but that's not the only reason for liking the film by any means.
(I still harbor my illusions about Jane Goodall; please don't take them from me. )

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Not just the film but the whole life of Fossey fascinates me. She seems to be an example of someone who had trouble with human relations and turned to animals for solace. The preacher who eulogized her said that she was to gorillas what Jesus was to humans. After all she did give her life to save them.

Although I did enjoy Gorillas in the Mist I much preferred “Instinct” with Anthony Hopkins; a much more hard hitting film I thought.
