THE GRADUATE Is On TCM At This Moment;

Here's the place to talk about DVDs (or VHS) films and movies you have seen on television and recommend or don't recommend. Discuss actors and scores, too.

THE GRADUATE Is On TCM At This Moment;

Post by dulcinea » Fri Feb 12, 2010 8:10 pm

in what way will watching this relic of the 60s help me to understand that perplexing decade? :?:

If my luck holds out, I will die without ever having seen it.

In a strictly musical sense it shows, all too bluntly, that Simon made the right decision in splitting with Garfunkel.

This aside, the ONE big negative thought I have regarding this picture is, "How can a former comic genius like Mike Nichols have descended so far since the early 70s?"

And, hey, it's a gem just for the fact it introduced the world to Dustin Hoffman.

Dulcinea, you just had to be there (the 60's, I mean, not the movie). If you weren't, you couldn't
possibly understand those tumultuous times. Of course, many baby boomers don't remember those
years because it was also the time of acid, peyote, and the ubiquitous pot. Maybe Corlyss has
good reasons not to reminisce via Mike Nichol's comedic eye or Dustin Hoffman's amazing first-time
performance. Somehow, I survived the wars (hot and cold), the Civil Rights and anti-war movements,
a few tokes, the beginning of a career as a writer, and a lot of interesting memories. Hence, my
signature (see below).
