Now That Leno Has Returned to His Previous Slot, ...

Here's the place to talk about DVDs (or VHS) films and movies you have seen on television and recommend or don't recommend. Discuss actors and scores, too.

Now That Leno Has Returned to His Previous Slot, ...

Post by dulcinea » Mon Mar 01, 2010 11:10 pm

... the inevitable question arises: WHAT WENT WRONG?
I read all the reasons why NBC had turned over to him the 2200 hours work week time slot, and they seemed to make perfect sense; in theory, the plan was impeccable and should have succeeded; instead, the entire catastrophe demonstrated once again that what works in theory can be a total washout in reality.

He was a ratings bust. Jeff Zucker has all but destroyed NBC, and yet he's moving over to Universal when they split from GE. Makes no sense to me whatever.

I think the main problem was that they planned the Conan thing 5-6 years in advance. IMO that's too much of an eternity in media, or really in anything. You just don't know how things will develop.

The other main problem was (as it turns out) that they expected Conan to make himself into something else when he switched to the new slot.

Conan may have the last laugh. There is astory circulating that Fox may be interested in a late night talk show for it's TV entertainmant channel. 8)

Speaking of laughs, has anyone ever noticed how nervous JL acts when saying the opening monolog: shuffling his feet, moving from right to left to right again, squaring his shoulders, keeping his hands in his pockets instead of gesticulating with them, constant uncomfortable and unjustified smiles? His body language loudly proclaims that he knows that his monolog material is rubbish, and he is engaged in a desperate and hopeless struggle to make his lame jokes seem funny.
He should fire his entire writing staff, and replace it with the people who write the headlines section.

As long as they don't put it on Fox at 11:30 instead of SEINFELD.

If they do, they lose at least 1 viewer, and I think many more.
