New Holmes, why not new Chan?

Here's the place to talk about DVDs (or VHS) films and movies you have seen on television and recommend or don't recommend. Discuss actors and scores, too.

New Holmes, why not new Chan?

The Chan films were popular from 1931 thru 1945. A new one is overdue. Something along the lines of Chan versus a villain wanting to destroy the world. Number one son could do all the heavy stuff and charlie coud deduct. I vaguely remember one in the 60s in technicolor with Ustinovwhich bombed!

I'm confucius, er, confused. I thought we had a new Chan:

Seriously, IMO it would spoil the character to have him modernized. More than Holmes, he lives in a fictive cinematic world that doesn't lend itself to a modern treatment. I know that Chinese Americans have objected that he was played by a series of Euro-Ams, but I don't think PC is an issue since Chan was a strong, positive, respectable character. But he is, let's face it, a relic.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
