Scorsese's Hugo--a Departure

saw it in 2D digital the day after its general release. loved it.

The freshest offering from Scorsese in twenty years. In many ways this flick struck me as autobiographical, an old man's 400 Blows. Though weighted down with "filmic stuff' in Scorsese's later mannerist style, the charmingly terrifying story and characters soar above it all--never ponderous like parts of The Departed, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island.

Ben Kingsley & Sacha Baron Cohen are great and Asa Butterfield & Chloë Grace Moretz adorable as the little kid adventurers. And in another bow to sci-fi flicks, there's even a robot.

Not a movie for real little kids though. I think they would be bored.

A wonderful movie, especially in 3D. In fact, it is the best 3D movie that I have ever seen. The movie is an eye popper. 8)
