Here's an excellent website dedicated to the discussion and analysis of film music. A young professional musicologist whose acquaintance I've made (he actually wrote his dissertation on Beethoven) runs the blog and he has posted some excellent analyses of film music. Strongly recommended for those who like to visually examine some extracts from the scores, hear these and learn how music functions in film:

Edit: The Oscars are over and my friend has got it absolutely right about the winner for best score, "Gravity". He really knows what he's talking about and has the runs on the board (pardon the pun)!
