MLK Day tribute: Charles Burnett's Killer of Sheep (1978)

If you have never seen this classic, do yourself a favor and stream it this weekend on Kanopy in honor of the late Martin Luther King. It is part of the Criterion Collection and has been placed on the Library of Congress's National Film Registry.

Hard to believe this flick was shot in 1972-73 for a pittance ($10,000) to meet the requirements for a master's degree at UCLA's film school.

While you are at it, also stream Burnett's My Brother's Wedding (1983) on the same channel.

Killer of Sheep. A masterpiece that infuses new life into the phrase, Black lives matter.
