"A. Lincoln"

Post by Ralph » Wed Sep 16, 2009 9:01 am

Of all the presidents neglected by biographers and historians, Abraham Lincoln ranks up there with the unjustly forgotten Millard Fillmore. His second term cut very short by an assassin's bullet, Lincoln faded into memory with but a small monument to his name in Washington.

Still, some historians care and Ronald C. White, Jr. has delved deeply into the sixteenth president's life to produce a long but craftful biography that follows Lincoln from birth to premature grave. Using both a plethora of published sources and much new research White gives us a fresh and well-written view of a very complex man who surely came to office at the right time to save the Union from dissolution.

Even if you think you know all about Lincoln, this book will stimulate you and, perhaps, ignite a new interest in the president and his turbulent time in office.
