what would you recommend of Le Fanu and Lovecraft?

Of Le Fanu I am only familiar with (and can recommend as enjoyable, at least years ago when I read them) Uncle Silas, In a Glass Darkly (which includes a vampire story influential on Bram Stoker and everyone since) and the Purcell Papers. Not quite enthusiastic enough to seek further, but if found a second-hand copy of The Wyvern Mystery or Checkmate I'd probably buy it.

Lovecraft I recall as basically for adolescents of a bygone era, and can seem almost silly in todays context. I couldn't imagine enjoying The Dunwich Horror or Call of Cthulhu today. I can still read A. Merritt's The Face in the Abyss with pleasure, or Dunsany's stories, but not Lovecraft anymore. My bad, I guess.

Lovecraft has quite the cult following. You might try Thomas Ligotti too.
