Anybody Read Shelby Foote's 3 volume set about the Civil War

I'm thinking of getting the set at amazon for $49.14 (free shipping of course).

I remember the TV mini series many years ago about the Civil War and Shelby Foote narrated some parts of the program. I thoroughly enjoyed him then and am now finally getting around to wanting to order his books.

Before I put the money and time into it, I was wondering if anybody has read his work.

My brother read it, all 3 volumes, said he could hardly put it down. And that was after seeing the TV series, so he knew how the story was going to end. :)

I got the series new hb still in the shrinkwrap for chump change and donated it to our library here. They wanted to put it in the reference section. I told 'em I wouldn't give it to them if they didn't put it in circulation. I also gave the series to my friend back in VA. He read it and loved it. Reread it too.

Foote also wrote a novel about Shiloh (also the short book's title) that is very good.
