KING COPHETUA AND THE BEGGAR MAID
KING COPHETUA AND THE BEGGAR MAID
How do you interpret that story and the painting by Burne-Jones? I often identify with Penelophon.

I don't mind so much that this is not about a book, but you started an almost identical thread in the Pub just a year ago, and it didn't go anywhere.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Which is why I point out its existence. The fact that people such as Lord Tennyson wrote about it shows that that story appeals strongly to the British, of which you and others here are such good friends.jbuck919 wrote:I don't mind so much that this is not about a book, but you started an almost identical thread in the Pub just a year ago, and it didn't go anywhere.

I have watched several Hispanic soap operas in which the basic plot is a man of prominence falling in love with a humble girl who inspires in him protective instincts. It seems the Cinderella plot is related to the Cophetua plot.

I never heard of this "KING COPHETUA AND THE BEGGAR MAID" stuff before--must have missed the earlier thread. A lot of material related to it according to wiki:jbuck919 wrote:I don't mind so much that this is not about a book, but you started an almost identical thread in the Pub just a year ago, and it didn't go anywhere.

It seems to me there are some similarities to the Cinderella plot. Oh well next time I'm at London's Tate I'll look for this painting! Regards, Len
