"I summon my blue-eyed slaves anytime it pleases me. I command the Americans to send me their bravest soldiers to die for me. Anytime I clap my hands a stupid genie called the American ambassador appears to do my bidding. When the Americans die in my service their bodies are frozen in metal boxes by the US Embassy and American airplanes carry them away, as if they never existed. Truly, America is my favorite slave."

I loathe that kind of ethnic or national profiling. Statistically, relatively few Americans are blue-eyed. This is the kind of stereotyping that infuriates me.

What? You would have liked the sentiment better if he'd listed our infinite variety of physical characteristics?

I think he was kidding, although it's admitedly tough to tell on here sometimes.

"Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed." - Winston Churchill

Actually, I thought they were both kidding but play rough at times. But I've eMailed that quote and it's disgusted and enraged Aussies - I can only imagine how an American would react.

It's the price of oil, dear - "blue-eyed slaves" for the black syrup that fuels our own domination.

Fahd's words are as far as can be from having any personal reference.

Where lies their inaccuracy that would make Brendan's rage anything other than a projection of self-contempt?

Gregory,

A projection of minimal standards of decency, if nothing else, is hardly the same thing as a projection of "self-contempt". Keep your shallow, amateur psycho-babble to yourself, please.

Brendan,

You're a bookish fellow, - ever read Hegel on the paradoxes of the master-slave relationship?

Long ago. International relations between states and peoples are somewhat conceptually different, IMHO. At least to some.

International relations between states and peoples is exactly what Fahd was referring to, - and my own observation of "Brendan's self-contempt" as little personal as the ironies he (Fahd) intended.

Of course! Inclusiveness. Diversity. That's what America is all about.

Gregory,

Casting international relations as personal is part of the problem as I see it. Just another reason to condemn the deceased, IMHO.
