European trio warn Iran on nuclear resumption
Britain, France and Germany have warned Iran that talks on its nuclear program would end if the Islamic state resume activities that the West suspects could help it develop nuclear weapons.
Two years of hard bargaining between the European Union and Iran over its nuclear program look close to coming to a head with Iran saying it plans to restart nuclear fuel work.
As France says the situation could be the start of a major crisis, the EU trio sent a letter to Iran's chief negotiator spelling out what a resumption of nuclear work would mean.
"Were Iran to resume currently suspended activities, our negotiations would be brought to an end and we would have no option but to pursue other courses of action," the EU trio and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said.
"We therefore call upon Iran not to resume suspended activities or take other unilateral steps."
French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin has told Europe 1 radio a referral to the UN Security Council would follow "if Iran doesn't back off".
The EU trio is due to deliver full proposals within a week for nuclear, economic and political cooperation provided Iran ends all uranium enrichment-related activities.
Iran had previously agreed to suspend nuclear fuel-related activities while both sides tried to negotiate a long-term solution.
But the letter says the trio is concerned that Iran is proposing to take a step that would terminate the dialogue before it has even presented the ideas.
The EU and the United States suspect Iran's atomic program is a front for efforts to create a bomb.
Iran insists it only wants nuclear power for electricity.

Let's hope!Ralph wrote:Europe awakens! Hallelujah!!!
The expected scenario runs thusly:
1. Iran agrees to do whatever the Europeans want and then goes on doing exactly as they have been. To Islamic representatives, they have been saying exactly that: "Disregard what we say. We're going to build a bomb."
2. The Europeans and the US take this issue to the UN.
3. The UN refuses to deal with it either thru Russian or Chinese votes or both, thus confirming their continued usefulness only as a distributor of children's Xmas cards.
4. The Europeans and the US are forced to confront Iran without the cover of international agencies that are supposed to deal with these issues.
5. Blockade ensues.
Let's see if that's how it turns out.

Let's do it!
