During the past two months I went to two open rehearsals by the Guarneris. The first time they rehearsed a Frank Bridge quartet; the second time Haydn's "Sunrise" Qt. I enjoyed them despite the fact that the music was sometimes chopped up as they went over parts. Last night I went to a full concert and was disappointed in the program which consisted of:
Mozart, K168
Dohnanyi, Opus 15
Dvorak, Opus 61
Only the Dohnanyi moved me. The early Mozart piece was far from the level of his "Haydn" quartets, and the Dvorak seemed to be among his least popular chamber works.
A disappointing program by the Guarneri Qt.
