Of course, for some of us, the big birthday this year is Shostakovich's 100th. But I somehow doubt Google will put those thick glasses over one of their Os on the big day
.
I only hope nothing prevents me from living into the 2020s, so I can enjoy the Big Bs 250th celebration in 2020 and the 200th anniversary of his death in 2027. These Mozart celebrations (this one and the one for his 200th death anniversary) are nice, but they can be a little annoying for those of us who aren't crazy about his music and don't want to have to sit through all those concertos during the first half of concerts this season
. Thankfully, I live close enough to the hall to skip some of them and just show up for the post-intermission (19th or 20th century music) portion of the program
.
