I'm off to Europe...see you in August!

Post by IcedNote » Sat May 20, 2006 2:17 pm

Hey all!

I really like this forum, but (un)fortunately, I won't be on for a while...

I leave Wednesday (May 24th) and come back August 2nd. I'll be in Italy for the first month because I'm meeting professors and composers around the country. Hopefully one of them will invite me over on a Fulbright Scholarship once I'm done here in Miami. I have been in contact with several people already, and for those of you who are interested, this guy is my best hope:

www.luigiceccarelli.net

I have a meeting with him on Friday, and he's already told me that he's really excited to work with me! It's unbelievable, because I don't like much "new" music, but I love what he's doing. His style is very similar to mine...really dark and ominous. Good stuff!

After Italy, I'm going to Paris on June 26th. I'm actually seeing TOOL there that weekend, and then the fun really begins....

I was accepted to study with a very prestigious composition program in Paris, the European American Musical Alliance ( www.eamusic.org ). It's a program headed by faculty from The Julliard School, Indiana University, Mannes College of Music, and the Paris Conservatory. You wouldn't believe how much work I'll be doing over that month: composition lessons, counterpoint, analysis, keyboard harmony, ear training, master classes, and choir. Yeah...I have to sing in a choir, and we're actually giving performances throughout Paris. That'll be cool though...I haven't sung in a choir since high school, and I miss it. Also, we're expected to write a choral piece to be sung, so if they choose mine, we'll be performing it on our mini-tour. Killer!

So there you have it. I'm glad I found this site, and I'll be back in a couple months! So keep it goin'! :D

Wow! You're going to be one very busy person ... but it sounds like fun, and if you're a young person (which I think you must be) ... you will hold up very well. YOU, my friend, are the future of music. Good luck with everything. Be safe and absorb everything. Take time, also, to smell the "roses of nature." We'll miss you and will glad to have you back amongst us. If you have access to a computer there, drop by when you are not busy and tell us how you are doing. Love to hear from you. Thank you for also being such a great member and contributor on CMG.

Bon voyage.

It does rather seem like we'll overlap. I'm leaving on June 23 and coming back on August 16. Much as I love Germany, I wish it were tomorrow. Heimweh, don't you know.

Good luck.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
