Volpe was the director of the Metropolitan Opera Company for many years, rising from carpenter to director the hard way. If you, like I do, love to read about opera and singers this will be mothers milk.
His celebrated sacking of Kathleen Battle is covered thoroughly(she merited it).
I'm about half way through and have had a great time reading all the dirt.
The book just came out and is current up to the Spring of this year. If you like opera give it a read.
